Welcome to Driftwood…

Hello! I’m Ruth, and I’m the founder of Driftwood Visual & Aesthetics, a creative content studio based in King’s Lynn. I can’t lie, I’ve always been much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it, and that’s one of the things that led me to Driftwood.

Since childhood I’ve been mesmerised by the magic of this little corner of the country. How the weather, the light, the seasons, even just the air, have their way of making the same streets feel like different worlds. The little shops, the country pubs, the beautiful buildings. The history and culture that makes Norfolk, well, Norfolk. I’m constantly working to capture my surroundings as I really see them, to get across the funny things I notice and the details which others might miss.

Writing came first, then photography, then… hang on, these belong together!

Neither really had a grand plan. Writing was always part of my life in one form or another. Stories, poems, half-formed ideas doodled anywhere I could find space for them. In the end I enjoyed creative writing enough to complete a degree in it.

And photography has been an ever growing presence. From running around taking holiday shots as a little kid, to returning from university determined to preserve every captivating Hunstanton sunset I possibly could, I’ve found myself taking every opportunity to hone my skills. Now I’m at my happiest wandering the streets, woods, and beaches, soaking up every little detail.

Over time, I've noticed the shape of Norfolk changing. Norfolk has always changed. But development shouldn’t come at the expense of personality. We have an abundance of amazing independent local businesses and brands here, newcomers, hidden gems, and household names alike. They carry that personality, shaping our communities, being part of what makes Norfolk feel like home.

And these local businesses are under pressure, having to fight harder than ever to stand out. Nowadays that most often starts with a first impression online. Before ever walking through the door, customers are searching and scrolling, looking for the best places to spend their precious time and money. The challenge isn't just being seen; it's hitting them with the atmosphere before they experience it in person.

When you’re working yourself into the ground trying to keep your business running and shining, finding time for content and photography can easily end up near the bottom of the list. And you know what? Sometimes you just need a little support from a local weirdo with a camera, a notebook, a sideways perspective and a somewhat unhinged level of dedication…

If you’ve made it this far, then you can probably tell I can talk about my passion for Norfolk for far longer than is strictly necessary. Fortunately for both of us, the contact form is much shorter. Now, I’d love to hear about you!
